TECHNIQUES
Graphite, coloured pencil.

APPROACH AND INSPIRATION
Inspired by nature, informed by scientific rigour and the needs of the audience. Truth and beauty. Trees.

Botanical artists I admire include: Asuka Hishiki, Masumi Yamanaka, Siobhán Larkin, Patricia Newman, Sarah Simblet.

BIOGRAPHY
My background is in botany and geology but in recent years, I have begun drawing plants, trees in particular. My plant portraits are now in private collections in Ireland, Canada and the UK. I have attended courses at the Alberta College of Art (Calgary), National College of Art and Design (Dublin) and, more recently, The Drawing School (Dublin). I have also published poetry (in The Stinging Fly), broadcast prose (on RTE Radio 1 and LyricFM) and published scientific reseach. I was a weekly blogger for two years, writing about nature, gardens and, sometimes, my forays into botanical art.
